tyrantrum-tantrum-giveaways:

Whether you were inspired by another giveaway blog or thought they looked like fun, you’ve decided that you want to try your hand at being a giveaway blog too!

Now, before you go and jump in head first, let’s take a look at what goes into being a Pokemon Giveaway Blog, shall we?

Your blog name

This is incredibly important. It’s how your new followers are going to find you. Take a look at most of the Giveaway Blogs out there. What do you see? They’re named after pokemon! Now, I’m not saying that you’re limited to pokemon names, but it helps potential followers understand what you do exactly.

Lots of people choose to use their favorite pokemon because it doubles as their mascot! Take some time and think about your favorite pokemon. Narrow it down if you have to (though you aren’t limited to only one mascot) then start thinking of names. Get creative! You want to stick out from the rest of the group. Once you’ve settled on a name, claim it! You can always change it later if you want to, but make sure to do it before you go live.

Build your blog

The first question you need to ask yourself is: Do I want to make a side blog or create a new main blog? This is entirely up to you. Most Giveaway blogs are side blogs. As for me, it’s my main blog with my other blogs as sides. I like it because it’s my biggest following and the first thing I see when I open Tumblr. It allows me to immediately and easily take care of my giveaway business and followers. Choose carefully. You don’t want to regret the decision later on.

I can’t stress this enough: take the time to build your blog. Spend days picking the perfect background. Waste hours choosing the cutest avatar. Spend sleepless nights agonizing over the perfect layout.

You want your blog to be visually pleasing, uncluttered, and easy to navigate. If your followers can’t find what they need, you’ll be bombarded with questions more often than you’d like. Remember: you’re building the blog for your followers. You see your dash; they see your blog. While building, keep a tab open that leads to the face of your blog. This will help you see everything just as your followers would.

Intro to PowerSaver

Of course, what’s a Giveaway Blog without their PowerSaver? It’s the nifty little device that most of us use to clone, shinify, and otherwise twist the pokemon to our liking. You can buy them from Amazon for under $20 usually. Make sure that it is the proper one for your device and region before purchasing. When you receive your PowerSave, I recommend replacing the wire the comes with it. They are sub-par and raise the likelihood of your game “bricking.” Replace the cord. Mine is one that’s used to charge Play Station controllers. *refer to bottom of post for pictures*

What is “bricking?” It’s when your cartridge is corrupted and can NO LONGER BE PLAYED. It is now as useful to you as a brick. From personal experience, this is devastating. If this is making you reconsider PowerSaving, bricking is something to be aware of, but it is a rare occurrence. As long as you properly eject the cartridge from your game (close the program before removing) and let the PowerSave complete its cycle when adding codes, your chances of losing everything are slim. Patience is key.

If you are still scared about bricking your cartridge, look for a used copy at a local game shop, pawn shop, thrift store, or the internet. It’s easier to eat a $20 loss rather than a $40 one and some guilt.

Now that you’ve got your blog built and your PowerSaver, it’s time to start giveaways, right?! Hold your horses! You’ve still got a lot to learn, my little bloglette.
